Hello Everyone!
It's been awhile since I posted a new
greeting message. My engineering practice has been going gangbusters and
I haven't really had the time to get an update written. Of course the BIG
NEWS is that TriTools Partners has released
VisualCADD Version 5.0.
in January
of this year, and has since released two patches with a third on the way in
the coming days.

Of the new features, Object Groups, PDF creation from within VisualCADD, and
Object Linking and Embedding (OLE) are probably the biggest changes.
I think my favorite new feature is Object Groups.
They are sort of like symbols (blocks to you Acad users), but the individual
entities retain their assigned properties. The group can be moved, copied,
mirrored, and rotated like a single entity. Items in the group can be selected
and edited without removing them from the group, or you can add entities to
the group.

The hot topics for the VCG listserver in the last month seem to cover a range
of discussion from converting files from VCD to DWG or from DWG to VCD, an
off-topic discussion of how to run DOS applications in Windows XP SP2, tips
on converting paper documents to electronic files, networking issues, and
symbol sizing. As you can see, the crowd on the listserver sometimes wanders
off topic, but the discussion is always lively and brings a varied group of people
together who are passionate about VisualCADD.
On a more somber note, I would like to mention the passing of our long time
Treasurer, Bruce Hilliker. Bruce's contribution to VCG has been immeasurable.
He was willing to donate his time to keep our books and roster of members up
to date. Of all the officers, I believe he put in the most volunteer time in
order to keep VCG running smoothly. In addition, Bruce contributed to the
listserver by passing on a few tips and tricks he learned over the years.
Bruce's contributions to the group will be missed.
